A rewilding initiative at Wild Woodbury in Dorset has yielded promising results with the resurgence of several bird species facing critical declines.
Seven birds classified on the Conservation Concern Red List have been observed at this 170-hectare site, including the nightingale, greenfinch, grey partridge, marsh tit, skylark, nightjar, and tree pipit.
The Dorset Wildlife Trust, which acquired the area in 2021, has been actively transforming it from former agricultural land into a thriving nature reserve. This effort has already documented over 1,600 species, a substantial increase from the previous year, with plans for further biodiversity improvements such as introducing grazing animals to diversify habitats.
